Dear editor:
If youâre anything like me youâve been tuning out the news because itâs the only way to stay sane. Unfortunately, that hasnât made the bad news stop. And itâs time we pay attention.
Our federal government is currently âshut down,â which is affecting most of the usual functions of our union.
Before you try to say itâs one side or the otherâs fault, please know this isnât about red vs blue but rather the oligarchs vs everyone else.
This is an establishment caused problem, and both the donkeys and the elephants are responsible.
In talking to regular folks, itâs struck me that many are unaware of a few vital details about this shutdown that should absolutely infuriate every patriotic American.
First, Members of Congress are still getting paid. If you ask me, they should be cloistered like a jury and not allowed out of chambers until they get this crap fixed; and they definitely shouldnât be getting paid their usual salary that dwarfs every average Americanâs earnings.
Second, while the fat cats get paid, the feds are threatening essential workers like air traffic controllers with felonies if they donât show up to work. Even though theyâre not getting paid. And even though they were already criminally understaffed and demonstrably exhausted before the shutdown.
Third, troops are now being paid through a private donation by an anonymous billionaire donor.
This is quite literally one of the key ingredients that led to the collapse of the Roman Republic. The state couldnât pay soldiers, so private patrons did.
And it should come as no surprise that after that change Roman armies started fighting each other because they were more loyal to their private leaders than they were to Rome.
If this is what the reds and blues offer, then itâs time for something different Wyoming.
