Brief: Missing 21-Year-Old Found Dead On Wind River Reservation

Searchers found the body of a missing 21-year-old man Monday on the Wind River Indian Reservation, a federal police agency confirmed Friday.

Andrew L. Brown was 21 when reported missing July 7, says a Friday email from U.S. Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA) spokesman Joshua Barnett.

“At this time, foul play is not suspected; however, the investigation is ongoing,” wrote Barnett.

The BIA Missing and Murdered Unit began investigating the case July 15, coordinating a search with volunteers from Lander and Riverton Search and Rescue teams, the Fremont County Sheriff’s Office, Shoshone and Arapaho Tribal Game and Fish, the Wind River Police Department, the FBI’s Lander Field Office, and the Wyoming Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI).

Brown’s last known contact was Feb. 8, says DCI’s missing person’s database.

The Fremont County Sheriff’s Office call log says the Fremont County Coroner’s Office was called to respond to a dead body Monday at 10:02 a.m.

The Fremont County Coroner’s Office declined this week to comment on the case.

The BIA is a federal agency that polices the Wind River Indian Reservation and has an outpost there.
