An âunknown maleâ got into an ambulance parked in front of a Riverton emergency room at about 2:15 a.m. Sunday, drove off and sparked a chase with law enforcement that ended with his escape on foot into the Wind River Indian Reservation, police say.
While the ambulance sat in front of the emergency room at Rivertonâs SageWest Health Care, an âunknown maleâ got into it and âtook off,â Riverton Police Department Capt. Wes Romero told Cowboy State Daily in a Sunday phone interview.
Police chased the male to the Wind River Estates area on the townâs southeast end and tried to stop him, but the ambulance continued toward the Wind River Indian Reservation.
Speeds reached 80 mph on the highway, said Romero.
Once on the reservation, the ambulance backed into a patrol car, affecting its bumper â though âit didnât do much damage,â Romero said âand it also struck a Fremont County Sheriffâs deputy truck.
The suspect âbailed out on foot, and we werenât able to locate him,â the captain added.
Cowboy State Daily will update this story as more information surfaces.
