In Wyoming House District 14, Laramie Democrat Trey Sherwood secured a third term by holding off a challenge from Republican Joe Giustozzi, also of Laramie.
The vote was 2,276 for Sherwood and 1,846 for Giustozzi.Â
âIâm extremely grateful for my community showing up and being rigorously engaged in the democratic process,â Sherwood told Cowboy State Daily.Â
Sherwoodâs victory means continued stability for Democrats in Albany County. It and Teton County are Wyomingâs only blue-leaning areas.Â
Giustozzi had wanted to take the district in a more conservative direction, a tall order for a Republican in Democrat-dominated Laramie. He moved to Wyoming from Connecticut four years ago, and previously told Cowboy State Daily that he didnât want to see the types of polices heâd experienced back East enacted here.Â
Education Remains Key Topic
Sherwood is a strong advocate of education. She was instrumental in getting funds for the one-room Antelope Creek schoolhouse, in a remote part of northern Albany County called âLittle Siberia.âÂ
âPeople in my district really value education,â Sherwood said, noting that she would continue to make that one of her top priorities.Â
She said voters at the polls also told her that housing was a major concern for them. Â
People are worried about paying more than 30% of their income on rent, while she said homeowners are concerned about high property taxes.Â
