Accused of shooting another man roughly 10 times with a .45-caliber pistol in Fort Bridger, Wyoming, a Lyman man is charged with first-degree murder.
A Lyman woman who allegedly threw his pistol out the window of a moving truck after the shooting has been charged with accessory after the fact in Evanston Circuit Court.
Skyler Gray, 36, could face life in prison or the death penalty if convicted of first-degree murder, according to court documents filed Tuesday.
Uinta County Attorney Loretta Howieson Kallas did not immediately respond to a late-afternoon inquiry about whether she is seeking the death penalty in Grayâs case.
Shadawn Oehler, 34, faces up to three years in prison and $3,000 in fines if convicted of accessory after the fact.
Court Documents Say âŚ
Uinta County Sheriffâs Deputy Rowdy Dean responded Saturday evening to a shooting that happened across the highway from the Fort Bridger Post Office, by the population sign, according to an affidavit filed in Grayâs case.
One victim, later identified as Jeremy Jaques, 48, of Mountain View, was not breathing, dispatch reportedly told Dean as he approached the scene.
Dean arrived to find emergency medical personnel attending to Jaques, who had visible gunshot wounds to his torso and arms, says the affidavit.
Deputies and Wyoming State Parks personnel started clearing the scene of witnesses.
The ambulance crew soon stopped lifesaving measures, as Jaques showed no signs of life, the document says.
Dean later documented six visible gunshot wounds in the manâs upper body.
Witness Account
A man on scene told Dean he was standing near Jaques when Gray arrived in an older-model Dodge truck, parked in front of a shop on the property, got out the driverâs-side door and started yelling that Jaques âowedâ him.
Jaques said he didnât owe the man a thing, the witness told Dean, reportedly.
Gray closed the distance between himself and Jaques, pulled out a black pistol and fired at least six shots, the man said, according to the document.
The affidavit says Jaques fell to the ground, and Gray shot another four rounds.
Gray left the scene in his truck, which also contained a woman and children, the witness reportedly said.
Dean collected 10 spent .45-caliber shell casings near Jaquesâ body and six from âdirectly under at and the right side of Jaques,â reportedly. The affidavit doesnât specify whether the six casings under Jaquesâ body were included in the initial 10 or separate from them.
Pistol Toss
Another affidavit by Uinta County Sheriffâs Deputy Shawn Robinson, filed in Oehlerâs case, says Robinson and another agent reportedly located the Dodge truck headed down a street in Lyman toward Grayâs home.
Robinson pulled up behind the truck with his emergency lights activated, just as Gray pulled into his driveway, the document says.
The other agent reportedly identified the two adults in the truck as Gray and Oehler. Grayâs affidavit calls Oehler his âwife.â
Robinson handcuffed Oehler for safety while sorting out the scene and spoke to her. She was hesitant at first, but later wrote a paper note about a âgun thrown,â the document says.
Oehler was taken out of handcuffs. She said she and Gray went to a home in Fort Bridger to speak with Jaques, reportedly.
Oehler remembered talking with another woman. She claimed she heard Gray say, âYou just hit me,â the document says, adding that she then heard a gunshot, then another.
Gray got into the truck and they started to drive away, and Gray told her repeatedly to throw the gun out the window. So she did, by Micheli Ranch Road, the affidavit relates from Oehlerâs interview.
Agents found a black .45-caliber pistol off business loop 80 near the shooting scene, says Grayâs affidavit.
