A mature male wolf from one of Grand Teton National Parkâs well-known packs was struck and killed by a vehicle Friday, the Park Service confirmed Monday.
âWe can confirm that a male wolf was struck by a vehicle and killed on the Gros Ventre Road near the Gros Ventre Campground in Grand Teton National Park the night of Friday, May 17,â Grand Teton spokesman Jeremy Barnum stated in an email to Cowboy State Daily on Monday Afternoon.
âThe wolf had been previously collared and was part of the Lower Gros Ventre pack,â he added.
No further details were available about the incident.
Wolves Usually Donât Live Long
Wolf 907F in Yellowstone National Park has lived almost unprecedented 11 years and just gave birth to another litter of pups, wolf researcher Kira Cassidy recently told Cowboy State Daily.
But wolves usually live about only three to four years in the wild. And âhuman-causedâ fatalities, including getting struck by vehicles, are one of the leading causes of wolvesâ deaths, she said.
Grizzly 610 Survived Semi Hit Last Year
Many were angered when one of Grand Tetonâs most beloved critters, Grizzy 610, was struck and severely hurt in October 2023.
She was allegedly hit by a semitruck, and the diver fled the scene, leaving her to languish in pain by the roadside for hours. She recovered on her own, however, and rejoined her cubs.
Grizzly 610 is one of the offspring of Wyomingâs most famous bear, Grizzly 399.
