The Natrona County Sheriffâs Office is investigating the shooting of a domesticated bull bison on private property in the western part of the county, and is asking for help.
Sheriffâs Office spokesperson Kierra Grogan said in a Monday news release that someone shot the bison at a Bates Creek Lane property near the intersection of Highways 220 and 487 sometime between the afternoon of March 6 and morning of March 7.
Grogan said the owner has a âgroup of bisonâ on his property.
Grogan said investigators know the type and caliber of weapon involved, but is not making that public.
âWe are not releasing that information right now to ensure that the integrity of the investigation stays intact because we are hoping to get a suspect and utilize that information,â she said.
Grogan said the bison was severely injured and is receiving veterinary care.
The NCSO is asking anyone with information about the incident to report it to its Investigations Unit at 307-235-9282 or anonymously through Crime Stoppers of Central Wyoming at 307-577-8477.
Tips submitted through Crime Stoppers may be eligible for a cash reward.
