Gov. Mark Gordon announced Friday morning he has tested positive for COVID-19.
“The governor is experiencing only minor symptoms at this time and will continue working from home on behalf of Wyoming,” said Michael Pearlman, the governor’s spokesperson.
Pearlman added that the governor doesn’t know how he contracted the virus.
Gordon first contracted the virus in November 2020 and experienced minor symptoms then. He continued working a full schedule while in isolation, a staff member said at the time.
Gordon had been scheduled to speak at the Wyoming Press Association convention in Cheyenne on Friday, a longstanding tradition for Wyoming governors.
Rep. Mike Yin, D-Jackson, said he put on a facemask after he found out the news, as he and other members of Democratic leadership had met with the governor for more than an hour Thursday morning.Â
Rep. Trey Sherwood, D-Laramie, was spotted wearing a mask during the House Appropriations Committee shortly after the announcement was made.
“Bummer,” Sherwood tweeted. “Governor Gordon has Covid and your WY Democratic caucus had breakfast with him and his staff yesterday. I’m masking up until I can confirm a negative test. Looking forward to a long nap this weekend …”
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends isolating for at least five days following a negative test and no longer experiencing any symptoms.
