Former President Donald Trump was shot Saturday at a rally in Pennsylvania.

Secret Service agents swarmed Trump after the first of about nine gunshots hit his ear while he delivered a speech onstage. Trump and the attendees behind him dropped toward the ground. A man's voice said, “Get down, get down, get down."

What sounded like a later, lone shot sounded, then the agents called out to each other, saying "Shooter's down!" according to this video.

The shooter was killed. At least one additional rally attendee was also killed.

“Wait, wait, wait, wait,” Trump told the agents as they tried to remove him from the stage, according to the video (below) posted to X.com, formerly Twitter. He faced the crowd and raised one fist in the air, and appeared to mouth the word “fight.”

The rally attendees behind him stood and raised their fists as well.

Trump is safe, and issued a statement to Truth Social between two and three hours after the shooting thanking the Secret Service and other law enforcement, and extending condolences to the deceased attendee’s family, and to another attendee who was injured.

“I was shot with a bullet that pierced the upper part of my right ear,” wrote Trump. “I immediately knew that something was wrong in that I heard a whizzing sound, shots, and immediately felt the bullet ripping through the skin.”

He lost a lot of blood, he added.

“GOD BLESS AMERICA,” concluded Trump.

Lifting Prayers Up

Wyoming’s congressional delegation lifted prayers immediately.

“A deranged individual has shot the former and future President of the United States,” wrote U.S. Rep. Harriet Hageman, R-Wyoming, on her personal page on X.com. “Join me in praying for President Trump’s safety and recovery.”

Sen. Cynthia Lummis, R-Wyoming, posted to her official account: “Praying for President Trump and those at his rally in Pennsylvania.”

Later she voiced horror at the shooting, which is being investigated as an assassination attempt, and said her heart breaks for the rally attendee who was killed, and anyone else injured.

"I am eternally grateful for the swift actions of law enforcement who acted quickly to neutralize the suspect and prevent greater tragedy," Lummis said.

Wyoming Republican Sen. John Barrasso’s official X.com account shows a photograph of Trump, his ear bloodied, raising one fist in the air as Secret Service agents attempt to escort him off stage.

"Today, the nation witnessed a horrifying assassination attempt on President Trump,” wrote Barrasso in an email to Cowboy State Daily. He said he’s praying for the gunshot victims and their families. “Donald Trump is a warrior and will not be intimidated by this cowardly attack.”

Wyoming Gov. Mark Gordon's spokesman sent a statement to Cowboy State Daily, saying "President Trump, his family, and the victim's family are in our prayers.

"We are thankful for the professional and quick response of the Secret Service," the statement continues. "This is truly a sad day for our democracy and should serve as a wake up call for all Americans to express disagreement without resorting to violence."

Secretary of State Chuck Gray texted a statement to Cowboy State Daily: "Never surrender," wrote Gray. "I'm praying for President Trump and our entire country."

As the presumptive Republican presidential nominee, Trump has been campaigning against incumbent Democratic President Joe Biden.

Biden was briefed on the shooting Saturday evening, then issued a post to X.com saying he's grateful Trump is safe and is praying for him, his family, and the rally attendees.

"There’s no place for this kind of violence in America. We must unite as one nation to condemn it," Biden added. In a later press conference, Biden called the violence "sick," and said he'd tried to call Trump and hoped for his recovery.
