‘Life-Threatening’ Injuries For 14-Year-Old Casper Skateboarder Who Hit SUV

CASPER — A 14-year-old girl on a skateboard suffered “life-threatening” injuries after colliding with an SUV on a west-side street Monday evening.

The girl, whose name was not released by the Casper Police Department, was helped by bystanders at the scene before police arrived.

CPD spokesperson Amber Freestone told Cowboy State Daily the girl was riding on a skateboard going east on Whiskey Gap Road at about 5 p.m. when she collided with an SUV driving south on Indian Scout Drive.

“Deputies from the Natrona County Sheriff’s Office and Casper Fire/EMS were the first on the scene and had initiated life-saving measures,” Freestone said.

The girl was transported to Banner Wyoming Medical Center, then flown by air ambulance to Children’s Hospital in Denver, the CPD reports.

Freestone said she did not know if the girl was wearing a helmet or what part of the SUV the victim collided into.

Natrona County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Kiera Grogan said a supplement report filed by deputies “showed that there were bystanders as well (who) provided assistance” prior to police arriving on scene for the investigation.

“Once they arrived, deputies continued assisting with the medical side,” Grogan said.

The driver of the SUV cooperated in the investigation and wasn’t ticketed, Freestone said.

A search of the neighborhood by officers located members of the girl’s family. They were transported to the hospital by a Casper Police Department detective who helped facilitate communication between medical personnel, investigators and the family, Freestone said.

On The Heels Of A Fatal

Monday’s incident follows a June 27 crash in Mills where 13-year-old cyclist Allison Powell collided with a semitrailer at the intersection of Highway 257 and North Robertson Road. She was transported to the hospital and died from her injuries.

An initial investigation into that incident found no violations on the part of the tgruck driver, Mills Police Department reports.

Investigations of both incidents are ongoing, both departments report.

No other information about the accident or condition of the girl were available. This story will be updated as more is released.
