The election between Rep. Harriet Hageman and former Rep. Liz Cheney has been over for 18 months, but that doesn’t mean the sniping won’t continue.
Take Cheney’s support of presidential candidate Nikki Haley on Friday. Hageman had a reaction to Cheney’s action and was more than happy to share it.
On X, formerly known as Twitter, Hageman had both barrels blasting.
“Nikki Haley is just Liz Cheney Lite,” Hageman said. “It’s no surprise that Liz likes her, they seem to agree on most things.”
Then Hageman drew up a comparison.
“Just as Liz Cheney’s political career is over, Nikki’s political retirement is soon to come after she is blown out in her ‘home’ state. Sound familiar?”
Hageman was reacting to Cheney’s urging of Haley to stay in the presidential contest at least until Super Tuesday.
Cheney appeared on the popular Pod Save America podcast with former Obama staffers Jon Favreau and Dan Pfeiffer.
“I hope she stays in the race," Cheney said. “I think that we're in a situation where only two states have voted and you had something like 35%, I believe, of Republicans coming out of the voting in New Hampshire saying they would never vote for Donald Trump.”
That number is questionable, however, as a CNN exit poll found that 70% of voters who supported Haley were undeclared and only 27% were Republicans.
Regardless, many Republicans seemed almost giddy with Cheney’s support of Haley.
“If there was any doubt which team Nikki Haley plays for, Liz ‘I’m no longer a Republican’ Cheney just endorsed her,” Sen. Rand Paul said.
Journalist Glenn Greenwald, like Hageman, predicted Haley will suffer her final political demise similar to Cheney.
“Watching Nikki Haley get destroyed in her own home state will be one of the funniest things to happen in American politics since Liz Cheney — who the media turned into a political martyr and star — got booted out of office by 36 points by her own party,” Greenwald said.
